16 weeks!

16 Weeks Pregnant

Well, I wanted to updated you all on my pregnancy a little more often than I have but it’s been a busy few weeks!  But here I am heading into the 17th week of my pregnancy.  I have to say, I am feeling great!  I am finally feeling well enough to focus on eating a healthy, balanced diet and getting back into a fitness routine again.  I recently starting taking yoga classes again over the past few weeks with DM Yoga and I am loving it!  Usually it takes place at the Moberg Gallery which is a beautiful art gallery here in Des Moines that showcases a variety of artists.  Great space to practice yoga in!  We have also taken advantage of some of the beautiful weather we have had lately and practiced outside at Gray’s Lake.  It’s something that I definitely look forward to every week.  I am also back in the gym doing some cardio and light weightlifting to keep my muscles strong.  It’s also wonderful to be able to enjoy healthy foods again.  I am thoroughly enjoying my protein smoothies in the morning and salads for lunch again!  It’s also nice to not feel ridiculously hungry all the time.  I am actually starting to feel normal again!

Now on to the questions!

How Far Along?  16 weeks! 4 months pregnant and loving the 2nd trimester!

Total weight gain:  About 12 lbs (depending on the time of day I weigh myself).  I was really starting to stress about my weight because I was not within the recommended range of weight gain throughout the 1st trimester.  Thankfully when I went to see my Midwife a weeks ago she was happy to see that I was gaining weight.  She made me feel a lot better about my weight gain.  One thing I am learning is that everyone is different and will gain differently so it is important not to compare yourself to others.  Instead I am trying to focus on making the healthiest choices possible for me and the baby!  I have noticed over the last few weeks that I haven’t gained any more weight so I might just be leveling out a bit from my 1st trimester gain.  I am only about 3 lbs over the recommendation at this point and I can live with that!  I also think getting back into a fitness routine and establishing a healthier diet is playing a role in this.

Maternity clothes?  Still getting away with most of my wardrobe but I was starting to get annoyed of not being able to wear any my shorts (all of the cute new shorts I got last summer don’t make it past my hips!).  I tried purchasing a pair of maternity shorts and did NOT like they way they fit or felt on.  Instead I found some non-maternity shorts and purchased them in a bigger size.  They look and feel MUCH better than the maternity ones!  I also invested in a “Belly Band” so that I can still wear some of my pants.  I have a feeling that I am going to need to do some more shopping in the not so distant future though!

Sleep?  Sleep hasn’t been as good as I am used to the past few weeks.  I am having to wake up every night to pee which is pretty annoying.  I imagine this will only get worse as time goes on.  It’s also becoming harder to get comfortable in bed.  It might be time to purchase a maternity pillow!  🙂

Best Moment this week:  My family and I enjoyed some time at my in-law’s Country Club to celebrate the 4th.  They always huge pool party with games and a BBQ.  We also went to the 80/35 music festival later in the day on the 4th and on the 5th.  We really enjoyed watching Ziggy Marley, Xavier Rudd, and Pert Near Sandstone (just to name a few).  It was so much fun getting some quality time in with the family!

Having fun on the 4th of July!

Miss anything?  Still not really missing much of anything which is nice.  Of course, a margarita or sangria would have been great for the 4th of July weekend but didn’t feel like I was missing out on too much!

Movement?  Not yet.

Food cravings?  Right now I can not get enough of cherries!  They are so delicious….can’t stop eating them!  happy to be enjoying them while they are in season.

Anything making you queezy or sick?   Not at all and I am SO happy and thankful for that!  🙂

Gender:  Mystery baby!  It will stay a mystery until I deliver.  🙂

Labor signs?  Nope.  And hopefully not for a very long time!

Symptoms:  Like I said earlier, I am having to pee all the time!  Also, not sleeping the best due to not being able to get comfortable or having to wake up to use the rest room.  But that is it!

Belly button in or out:  In

Wedding ring on or off:  On

Happy or moody most of the time:  Happy!  🙂

Looking forward to:  Looking forward to my next midwife appointment on Tuesday and then getting away with my hubs for a long weekend to see our favorite band PHISH in Chicago!  We will being seeing them for 3 nights along with some of our favorite people from all over the country.  Seriously can not wait!
